Programs

On this page, you will find a description of each of our rooms. Our rooms are divided by age and the children move up each year. Prior to moving up to the next room, each child will have a two-week 'visiting period' to ease their transition. The Children's Nest follows a theme-based curriculum. We have a theme each week that the entire school must follow. All of the activities that week are based around the theme. We strive to provide as many opportunities and activities as possible. On Thursdays, we offer computer classes for 2 -5 year old children. During the summer, each class has 'water play' once per week, where they can go outside and play with the water table, hose, and sprinkler.

We also have many special activities here at the Children's Nest, such as visits from the policemen, firemen, and Blacksburg Transit!

The Children's Nest provides breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day. All food is made onsite at the Children's Nest and is served in the individual rooms. Naptime for the 2s, 3s, and preschoolers is from 12:30 to 2:30 each day. We encourage all children to sleep, or at least to lie down and relax. If a child is unable to sleep, we will provide them with books to enjoy while they lay on their cot.

The Children's Nest has an open door policy, so we strongly encourage you to stop by anytime, whether you are a current or a prospective parent. We look forward to seeing you here at The Nest!

Infants

All babies are fed and will take naps according to their own schedule. Babies enjoy tummy time, toys, and reading books each day.

Toddlers

Toddlers from age 12-24 months enjoy dancing, playing with bubbles, and much more in this busy room! Toddlers will go outside to their own playground twice a day when the weather permits.

Two-Year Olds

In the two year old room, children start learning independent skills such as using the potty and putting on their own clothes. The children also have center time everyday and outside time when the weather permits.

Three-Year Olds

In the three year old room, the children do several art activities each week. They also have fun doing cooking projects and going outside twice a day when the weather permits. They read several stories per day.

Pre-Kindergarten

In the preschool room, the children learn their letters and numbers, as well as how to write their names and letters. The children also have time to explore through centers and free reading time.

School-Age

We provide service to all Blacksburg school aged children by driving them to school in the morning and bringing them back to the daycare each afternoon. The children enjoy an afternoon snack when they arrive at the daycare. They are also given the chance to do their homework. Children can stay all day when the public schools are closed (vacation, early release, etc).
